Soil moisture content is a critical parameter we use in process of roadbed construction. Deviation from optimum parameters results in reduction of compaction coefficient, loss of bearing capacity, and premature construction deformations. Laboratory method of control according to the GOST 5180-2015 state standard provides high precision but requires soil sampling and transportation, as well as long-time drying in stationary laboratory drying oven. Thus, delays in obtaining test results impede the real-time monitoring of compaction process.

To manage this issue, our company together with specialists from KSPEU developed an instrument for express-control of soil moisture in field. The device is based on the classic method of sample drying until constant mass is reached with constant automated registration of mass changing.

The device is currently undergoing industrial testing of construction sites of JSC "Tatavtodor". Collaboration with KSPEU facilitates adaptation of this laboratory method to the requirements of field quality control, ensuring reliable measurements and high efficiency of earthworks.
